The Lakeshore Trail at Muddy Run Park is a beautiful hike around part of the100 acre lake. There are lovely views of the water and waterfowl, as well as lots of mossy rocks (I love mossy rocks). This is one of my favorite winter hiking spots. Portions of the lake freeze over and there are icicles all along the shore. The park itself is 700 acres of woodlands and rolling fields. It features a campground, boat dock, an observatory, splash pad and a number of picnicking areas and playgrounds. There is also a snack bar that is open during the summer months, so you can get an ice cream cone after your hike.
To get to the head of the trail walk past the playground and across the metal bridge, then walk across land bridge to the beginning of trail.
The start of the trail is rugged and very close to the lake. Be sure to pay attention to your footing. The hike becomes less challenging in the second half.
When the trail ends continue to walk around the lake. You will pick up another trail that will lead you back to the parking lot. Getting to the trail and then back to your car adds another mile to the hike.
